Students win VFW patriotic speech contests
Area students received awards in Minot FVW sponsored contests.
Malachi Braddock, a senior at Stanley High School, won first place in the “Voice of Democracy” scholarship program and also placed second in the district competition.
Michael Thomas, a senior at Velva High School, placed second in the VFW program and first place in the district competition.
Skylar Ballard, a student at Velva High School, placed third in the Minot VFW contest.
Middle school “Patriots Pen” contest winners included Faith Howe, Velva, who placed first in the Minot VFW contest and second in the district competition; Hali Degenstein, Velva Public School, who placed second in the Minot VFW contest, and Bradyn Bossart, Velva Public School, who placed third in the Minot VFW contest.
The Minot VFW also sponsors the Young Americans Creative Patriotic Art Contest, which is open to high school students. The entry deadline is March 31.
