Nathan Wallette, Krystan Standingbear charged with stealing vehicle; Standingbear charged with child neglect

Nathan Lee Wallette, 31, and Krystan Faye Standingbear, 24, are each charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony theft of propert in connection with theft of a motor vehicle in downtown Minot on Tuesdayy. In addition, Standingbear is charged with Class C felony child neglect for allegedly neglecting her baby.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police received a report that a 2008 Pontiac G6 had been stolen late Tuesday afternoon and that someone had spotted the vehicle driving east in the 2700 block of East Burdick Expressway.

The vehicle drove into a dead end at 41st Street SE and Wallette and Standingbear, who was carrying her baby, were reported to have run away from the vehicle.

Wallette was caught and detained and near the intersection of 38th Street SE and 10th Avenue SE. He was placed in the back of a patrol car. A nearby resident told police that Wallette had gone into his garage and left behind a black and white beanie hat a few minutes before. Wallette allegedly admitted to taking the vehicle because he was cold and had nowhere else to go. Wallette told police he had then picked up his girlfriend, Standingbear, and her baby and he had intended to go to Dunseith.

Wallette also has an open warrant through district court in Burleigh County. The state has filed to revoke his probation on a Class C felony charge of simple assault on a police officer.
