First-time ND early voting starts for Democrat presidential primary
North Dakotans can begin requesting mail-in ballots to vote in the Democratic presidential primary. The North Dakota Democratic NPL Party is holding its Firehouse Caucus with in-person voting on March 10 and, for the first time, is offering an early voting option.
Republicans also are holding nominating caucuses with in-person paper ballots on March 10. Details of the Republican caucuses have not yet been announced.
The last day to request a mail-in ballot for the Democratic-NPL primary is Feb. 25, and ballots must be postmarked for return by March 5.
Candidates on the ballot are Michael Bennet, Joe Biden, Michael R. Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Deval Patrick, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Yang.
Anyone age 18 or older by the time of the general election on Nov. 3 may participate in the presidential primary. More than 1,650 voters participated in the state Democratic-NPL’s 2016 in-person presidential nominating caucus.
The 14 in-person locations include the UA Plumbers Union at 131 35th Ave. NE in Minot. Voting also will take place in James Memorial Presentation at 621 1st Ave. W in Williston. Sites in Belcourt and New Town have yet to be announced. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The state’s delegate votes at the national convention will be proportionately divided among presidential candidates receiving at least 15% of the statewide caucus total.
