James Daigle, Minot, charged with throwing carving knife at son’s girlfriend

James Lee Daigle, 49, Minot, is accused of being drunk and throwing a carving knife in the direction of his son’s girlfriend late Saturday night at a Minot residence.

Daigle is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony terrorizing with a dangerous weapon.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the woman was making dinner in a crockpot. There was a large carving knife with a serrated edge inside the crockpot which the woman had been using to carve a turkey. Daigle picked up the pot and began to leave the kitchen and he took the knife and threw it at her while she stood by the sink. The knife flew by the woman, hit the wall above the sink and then landed on the floor. Daigle’s son confirmed the woman’s story.

Daigle first told police he had thrown a pot of mashed potatoes at the woman and there was a plastic butter knife in the pot. Police didn’t see any mashed potatoes in the kitchen or on the floor and the only dirty knife nearby was the carving knife. Daigle then changed his story and said he hadn’t thrown anything at all. Daigle told police that his story was different from the one told by his son and his son’s girlfriend “because they’re evil.”

Daigle made an initial appearance on Monday before Judge Stacy Louser, who set bond at $2,500 cash or corporate surety. Louser also ordered Daigle to have no contact with the alleged victim.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9.
