Equipment failure causes oil spill near Watford City

BISMARCK – An equipment failure on location at a well near Watford City on Saturday caused the release of 20,160 gallons of oil.

The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified on Sunday of the oil spill occurring at the Sturgeon 150-99-18-19-3H well, about six miles west of Watford City,

Newfield Production Company reported the spill. At the time of reporting, 480 barrels of oil had been recovered.

A North Dakota Oil and Gas inspector has been to the location and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.
