Barb Solberg named to Humanities North Dakota board of directors

Barb Solberg has been named to the Humanties North Dakota board of directors for the Minot area.

She was selected for a three-year term on the board.

Solberg earned bacheler and master’s degrees from the University of North Dakota and taught humanities in public schools and at Minot State University, including literature, writing and communication. In the mid-1990s she left the classroom for work as the instructional designer and faculty developer for online learning at Minot State University. She subsequently became an online learning consultant with two online learning software companies.

In 1997, she wrote both the first and the second editions of Harcourt College Publishers’ textbook “The Student’s Guide to the World Wide Web and Web CT.” She has also written for statewide and national publications as well as presented internationally on web-based learning.

Humanities North Dakota Executive Director Brenna Gerhardt said of Solberg: “Barb is an amazing addition to our leadership. I’m excited to add her insights to our discussions.”

“I am honored to serve on the North Dakota Humanities Council and to share my passion for the humanities with those on the council and others in our communities,” Solberg said in the press release. “I believe the humanities enrich our lives as well as our view of the world. My hope is to share that enthusiasm with those who aren’t as deeply steeped in the humanities.”

Humanities North Dakota is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing lifelong learning opportunities to the citizens of North Dakota, according to the press release. Established in 1974 as a partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, HND is not a state agency and does not receive state funding.
