Naqwantis Mitchell, Minot, sentenced for domestic violence

Naqwantis Trenecia Mitchell, 33, Minot, who had originally been charged with Class C felony aggravated assault, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a reduced charge of Class B misdemeanor simple assault – domestic violence.

Court records show that Judge Gary Lee sentenced Mitchell to 30 days in jail, all suspended but the one day she has already served. She has also been ordered to complete a course for domestic violence offenders, to participate in regular testing for substance abuse via the 24/7 Sobriety Program, to pay $250 in court costs and restitution to be determined.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case, Mitchell was accused of strangling her sister and slamming her head against a wall during an argument in May.
