Lori Glein, Minot, sentenced to time served, Drug Court, for second offense of driving drunk with 8-year-old in the car

Lori Sue Glein, 40, was sentenced on Tuesday to two years in prison, all suspended but the 79 days she served in the Ward County Jail, plus 11 days time off for good behavior, for driving drunk with her 8-year-old in the car on July 13.

It was the second time within a month that she had driven drunk with her child in the car. She had been sentenced July 3 – 10 days before her arrest in the Minot case – in district court in Bottineau for Class A misdemeanor DUI with a minor on June 28 and sentenced to 30 days in jail, all suspended but four days.

Glein changed her plea to Class C felony DUI with a minor on Tuesday in district court in Minot before Judge Todd Cresap.

Glein has been admitted to Drug Court and will be subject to conditions under that program for two years. Cresap also ordered her to participate in the 24/7 Sobriety Program for a year, to attend a victim impact panel, and to pay $2,600 in court costs.

Glein was released from the county jail on Oct. 22 and has been undergoing the regular testing for alcohol use required by the 24/7 Sobriety Program since that time. She has already completed the chemical dependency evaluation which is required for admission to Drug Court. Drug Court, according to the North Dakota Courts site, is court-supervised and treatment-oriented and is intended to help non-violent people whose problems originate from abuse of substances. The program is coordinated by adult parole and probation. Participants in the program appear regularly before a judge and also participate in treatment and self help groups and other activities intended to help them recover from addiction.

According to the probable cause affidavit in Glein’s felony DUI case, a caller told police at 9:16 p.m. on July 13 that Glein had been drinking all day at the Original Bar and Grill and was driving south on Broadway with her child in the car. Police stopped Glein’s car and noted the child was in the back seat. Glein failed a field sobriety test and had a breath alcohol sensor test of 0.280 percent.

Glein told the judge she is doing her best but declined to say anything more at her sentencing hearing.
