Harvey city offices displaced by fire may not be able to return to armory for several months

Submitted Photo A building housing city offices in Harvey caught fire on Sunday, Nov. 10, forcing some of the offices to move to another building while work is being done on the city building.

HARVEY – Harvey Police Chief Tony Webb and other officers are working out of their vehicles since a fire occurred on Sunday, Nov. 10, at the armory which houses the police department and other offices.

Webb said he goes into the office at times for awhile but mainly is working out of his police cruiser.

Some areas in the armory have fire damage and others have extensive smoke damage. Work is being done to restore the building after the fire.

Several offices moved to temporary quarters at 1012 Lincoln Avenue in Harvey.

A new phone system was operating and the Harvey Auditor’s office got its first phone call around mid-day on Wednesday at its temporary quarters.

City of Harvey Auditor Karen Nordby said they don’t know at this point when they will be able to return to their permanent offices, maybe six months or it could be longer.

City offices including Public Works, Utility Billing, Auditor and Job Development Authority now are operating temporarily at the privately owned building on Lincoln Avenue.

Veterans Service officer Terry Jesse, who had an office in the armory, said he is operating the office out of his home at Bowdon. He can be reached at 341-0547.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced this week the Driver’s License office that was housed in the city building is closed but will re-open Dec. 18.
