Sabrina Riley charged with theft of property from friend who was in jail

Sabrina Riley, 38, is accused of stealing from her friend, Bradley Cothren, while he was in the Ward County Jail earlier this month and of selling his property without permission.

Riley is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony theft of property.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Cothren told the Kenmare police department that he thought Riley had stolen property from the motel room in Kenmare where he had been staying, from a storage unit, from his enclosed trailer and his white Ford F-150. Cothren had allowed Riley to remain in the room while he was incarcerated. She had come from Washington state to help Cothren drive from Kenmare to Washington. He told police he did not give her permission to take his property and sell it. A man who bought an air conditioner and air compressor from Riley knew the property was Cothren’s but told police he thought Riley was selling the items to raise money to bond Cothren out. Law enforcement investigated further and determined that the property Riley stole was valued at more than $1,000.

Riley was scheduled to make an initial appearance in court last Friday before Judge Gary Lee.
