Kevin Conti, Minot, now charged with stealing cell phone a year ago

Kevin Marcel Conti, 27, Minot, who is already facing a slew of charges in district court, complained last Thursday that the Ward County State’s Attorney’s Office keeps charging him with offenses.

The most recent complaint against him is nearly a year old – a Class A misdemeanor theft of property charge connected with an incident that dates back to Oct. 25, 2018.

“I’ve gotten a new bond order every week for the last two months,” Conti told Judge Todd Cresap at his initial appearance on the charge. “This is insane.”

Ward County State’s Attorney Roza Larson said sometimes investigations take time and it would be making a mistake to assume this charge wasn’t given priority.

However, Cresap noted that the file for the case indicates that the last time police did any work on the case was November 2018. The complaint was finally filed against Conti on Thursday. This would seem to indicate that the misdemeanor theft charge did not have priority, said Cresap.

According to the affidavit in the latest case, Conti allegedly stole a cell phone from an employee at the AT&T Store on Oct. 25, 2018.

Conti is being held on $25,000 bond on numerous other charges at the Ward County Jail.

Among his other open cases include Class C felony criminal conspiracy to commit theft of property and Class A misdemeanor theft of property for allegedly shoplifting from a Loaf N’ Jug store and, along with another man, stealing bicycles from outside the Wellness Center at Minot State University on Sept. 18, 2018; Class A misdemeanor criminal mischief for cutting the ignition wires on a motorcycle he was allegedly trying to steal on Sept. 30, 2018; allegedly stealing a motor vehicle on Dec. 1, 2018; Class C felony terrorizing, for allegedly threatening a store manager with a knife after he was caught shoplifting on Feb. 17; Class B felony criminal conspiracy to commit theft of property for allegedly conspiring with co-defendant Zachrey Zdroik to steal a motor vehicle in March; Class C felony breaking into a motor vehicle, for an incident on May 4; Class B felony possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, Class B felony manufacture of heroin, Class B felony conspiracy to deliver methamphetamine, Class B felony conspiracy to deliver heroin, and Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, all for an incident on July 3. Co-defendant Laura Nelson was ordered to serve two years in prison for intent to deliver meth and heroin and conspiracy to deliver meth. Zdroik is also facing pending charges in that case and has pleaded not guilty to various charges. Conti allegedly was acting as the lookout for Nelson.
