Getting ready for Wreaths Across America

Applications for wreaths now available

Submitted Photo This photo shows how a wreath, plywood dog tag and cross in section 25 in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, will look. Section 25 can be used for the local Wreaths Across America program by those sponsoring a personal wreath for their loved ones who are not buried in sections 12 and 16.

Plans are being made for this year’s Wreaths Across America program in Minot.

Applications for wreaths have now been mailed to those who have sponsored wreaths in the past, said Richard Reuer, local Wreaths Across America coordinator.

Application forms can also be picked up at Flower Box, Flower Central and Rosehill Memorial Park Office and Chapel. Applications and payment can be mailed or dropped off at the Rosehill Memorial Park office during working hours. The deadline for accepting applications is Nov. 22.

The wreaths will arrive in Minot on Dec. 13. A ceremony will be held on Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot. The wreaths will be placed following the ceremony.

Once again wreaths will be placed in sections 12 and 16 at Rosehill Memorial Park in Minot, Reuer said.

He said the cemetery is also opening up section 25, the future site for another veterans’ section south of section 28. Those sponsoring a personal wreath for their loved ones who are not buried in sections 12 & 16, are asked to use section 25. A cross or floral stand can be placed there.

An unfinished dog tag made from plywood can be picked up at the cemetery office for those using section 25. The dog tag will be used to mark a loved ones’ cross or stand so sponsors will know where their wreath will be placed. People are free to decorate a dog tag and place the name of their loved one on both sides, so the name can be seen from the road. The dog tags can be reused each year a wreath is sponsored.

At upright stone markers in other sections, wreaths should be attached with a piece of string to hold it in place and when it is time to remove it, simply cut the string. Wreaths are placed this way in section 12. No crosses or floral stands are allowed in front of upright stones. Wreaths also can be attached to permanent vases at the markers.

Those with questions about placing wreaths can contact the Rosehill Memorial Park office at 857-4128, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Those planning to place a personal wreath on a cross or floral stand in section 25, are advised to start placing the crosses or stands during the last week of October, or before the ground starts to freeze, Reuer said.

He said volunteers will be placing the 500-plus rebar crosses in section 16 during the last week of October. It is asked that no decorations be placed on these crosses other than the wreaths that will be placed by volunteers on Dec. 14 following the Wreaths Across America ceremony.
