Bryce Molina, Minot, charged with theft, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment

Bryce Anthony Molina, 27, Minot, is accused of ramming two Burlington Police Department patrol vehicles with a stolen 2016 Jeep Renegade on Tuesday afternoon and endangering the public by fleeing from law enforcement toward Minot at speeds approaching 115 mph.

Molina is charged in district court in Minot with Class B felony possession of stolen property, two counts of Class B felony aggravated assault, two counts of Class C felony reckless endangerment, Class C felony fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and Class C felony unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Molina was scheduled to make an initial appearance in district court in Minot on Thursday before Judge Todd Cresap.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, a friend of the owner of the stolen vehicle told Burlington police at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday that she had seen the vehicle in Burlington. Burlington Deputy Police Chief Anthony Pasterz wrote in the affidavit that he and Burlington Police Chief Keith Crabb could see the vehicle in question from their office window and approached the vehicle. The vehicle, driven by Molina, turned and fled from Crabb. Pasterz saw this when he pulled around the opposite direction and activated his lights. Molina then paused and rammed Pasterz’ patrol car on the driver’s side door and fender. Crabb witnessed this and tried to move his patrol car into position to pin the vehicle. Molina drove past both squad cars and law enforcement gave pursuit. When Molina reached Fourth Avenue Northwest, off the U.S. Highway 83 Bypass, Crabb tried to overtake the vehicle. Molina then appeared to intentionally ram into Crabb’s vehicle on the driver’s side, toward the front fender, and tried to run Crabb’s car off the road. Law enforcement ended the chase at that point after they determined it wasn’t safe for the public.

Molina had a passenger with him identified as Jenniver Khalifa, according to the affidavit.

The Minot Police Department located the stolen motor vehicle at 8:54 p.m. on Tuesday at 927 Del Mar Court. The vehicle was unoccupied and there was no key in it. Pasterz and Crabb reviewed mug shots and determined that Molina was the driver who had rammed into the patrol cars and fled from police.

The Ward County Sheriff’s Department then located Molina, who was a passenger in another vehicle that was at the McDonald’s parking lot on South Broadway in Minot. The driver of the vehicle gave consent to search her vehicle. Police then found the key to the stolen Jeep under the passenger seat where Molina had been sitting.

The damage to the two Burlington Police Department patrol vehicles was estimated at $15,000.
