Teams to compete in photo scavenger hunt

Submitted Photo Volunteers from Wells Fargo helped put siding on a Habitat for Humanity house in July. The Amazing Photo Race is being held today, Saturday, at 1 p.m. at the build site at 500 12th Street NE as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. Teams will race around town taking photos of themselves at Minot landmarks and texting back pictures. The teams with the most points will win prizes.

Habitat for Humanity Northern Lights is hosting a photo scavenger hunt today, Sept. 14, as a fundraiser. The contest starts at 1 p.m. at 500 12th Street NE, the site where the latest Habitat for Humanity house is being built, and will last an hour.

The entry fee is $10 per person, said Roxy Volk, executive director.

Teams of up to four people will each receive a collage showing nine photos of landmarks around Minot. Teams will have to travel to the location and take a team photo in front of the landmark and text it back to the contest organizer. The team that makes it to the most locations and texts back photos will win first prize.

Volk said a couple of locations will be worth double points and there will also be a tie breaker location.

Teams can register right before the contest.

Prizes include gift certificates to restaurants as the first place prize; a dozen free doughnuts for the second place prize, one free pizza for each team member for the third prize; and T-shirts for the fourth prize.

Prizes will go to the top four teams.

Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial are sponsors for the contest.

Volunteers have helped build Habitat for Humanity houses, which help people who meet certain income guidelines become home owners. The prospective home owners themselves also put in sweat equity and are expected to help construct future Habitat for Humanity homes.

“We’re building on faith, that’s what we’re doing,” said Volk.

Volk said volunteers from the Pursuit Church, which has also assisted, will be helping to put siding on the house this weekend.
