SURREY – The City of Surrey will be scheduling a special election in December to elect a mayor and fill a council seat.

Mayor Jason Strand resigned in August, creating a vacancy in the position. The election will fill the two years remaining in the term. The city also received a recall petition from residents for council member Karla Walsh. Voters will decide whether to confirm Walsh or elect another candidate.

The filing deadline for candidates for the two positions is Oct. 14.
