Mountrail County installs new alert sirens

STANLEY – Ten new weather and fire sirens have been recently installed throughout Mountrail County, according to the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Office.

Communities receiving new sirens are Palermo, Ross, White Earth, Parshall and Plaza. New Town received two new sirens. Parshall Bay and White Earth Bay campgrounds each received new sirens, and the Van Hook Campground had its siren updated.

The City of Stanley is working with Mountrail County on its own project to install new sirens around the city.

The Mountrail County 911 Dispatch Center in Stanley will control all the sirens. The sirens will be used to notify residents who are outdoors of tornado warnings that require they take shelter.

Some communities will be using the sirens for fire alerts when requested by fire department personnel. The siren in Stanley will continue to be activated for each fire department response during daylight hours.

Siren sounds differ depending on the type of emergency. People can get more information on the Mountrail County Disaster Emergency Services’ Facebook page.

Sirens were purchased with contributions from EOG Resources, Phillips 66, Dakota Access Pipeline, Oasis Petroleum, Marathon Oil, Farm Credit Services and Mountrail County Commission.
