John Burditt Jr. enters pre-trial diversion agreement on child neglect charge

John Heath Burditt Jr., 32, Minot, has entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement on a Class C felony child neglect charge.

If Burditt successfully complies with all the terms and conditions of the pre-trial diversion agreement, the Ward County State’s Attorney’s Office will dismiss the charge against him.

According to court records, Burditt left his 6-year-old daughter unattended on May 17 while he was out getting drunk with his friends and he later got into a fight with people at the home early on the morning of May 18 while his daughter was left unattended outside in a cold car. The girl told police that one of the other adults at the residence had taken her out to the car because the adults in the household were fighting. According to the affidavit, the adults left the child alone in a bedroom in the residence for about half an hour while they went out to the Lamplighter Bar. Burditt became drunk and disorderly and was asked to leave the bar after he broke a glass. Burditt then punched his female friend in the face when the friends walked him out of the bar. A male friend drove him back to the residence, where Burditt continued to argue and said he wanted to go back to the bar. The friend drove Burditt back to the bar, where he got into another argument. Burditt eventually returned to the residence and was sleeping with his daughter on the bed when a female friend began yelling at Burditt. Another adult took the child out of the room while his friends tried to wake up Burditt, who was so drunk he had fallen off the bed. Two friends dragged Burditt out to the back yard, where they left him, and they tried to call someone to come and get the 6-year-old. Sometime later, Burdick walked back into the residence and started fighting with his friends again. At that point a female friend took the child out to the car and locked it and a male friend called the police.
