Dustin Hanson, Minot, charged with strangling pregnant woman

Dustin Ray Hanson, 31, Minot, is accused of strangling a pregnant woman during a domestic violence altercation on Friday afternoon.

Hanson is charged with Class C felony aggravated assault – domestic violence in district court in Minot.

“I am greatly sorry for what I have done,” said Hanson during his initial appearance in court before Judge Richard Hagar on Tuesday.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, his wife is eight months pregnant. She told police that she and Hanson had been having an ongoing argument and Hanson pushed her onto a bed, got on top of her, and tried to strangle her with both hands around her neck. Hanson allegedly threatened to kill the woman and said he did not care that she was pregnant.

Hanson told police he let the woman go because he did not want to kill her. He said he told her to go and to call the police.

Hanson himself called the police and said he had strangled the woman, according to the affidavit.

Hanson told the judge on Tuesday that he has no prior criminal record.

Hagar set bond at $3,000 cash or corporate surety or 10 percent of $5,000 cash bond. Hagar also ordered Hanson to have no contact with his wife.
