Rachelle Benroth, Williston, charged with possession of stolen vehicle

Rachelle Ann Benroth, 37, is charged in district court in Minot with possession of a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

She made an initial appearance on the Class B felony possession of stolen property charge on Tuesday before Judge Stacy Louser.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, someone called the Ward County Sheriff’s Office on Monday morning to report that a suspicious vehicle had been in the area. A person had been on his porch and then ran off and drove away. He took down a license plate, which the sheriff’s department ran and determined was registered to a Williston man. The person called back later and reported that the suspicious car was driving through a wheat field near 100th Street SW and County Road 14. A deputy responded and located Benroth driving the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. When the owner of the vehicle was contacted, he had no idea the vehicle was missing and thought it was still parked in his garage. He then called the Williams County Sheriff’s Department to report the vehicle stolen.
