ND setting new records in oil and gas production

Eloise Ogden/MDN The state is setting new records in oil and gas production along with the number of producing wells, according to figures just released by the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources.

North Dakota has hit new all-time highs in oil and gas production.

The state produced 1.42 million barrels of oil a day and 2.87 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day in June, according to the most recent figures available.

North Dakota also had a preliminary new all-time high of 15,741 producing wells in June. In May the state had 15,703 producing wells.

The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources announced the newest oil and gas production numbers on Thursday.

Sixty-one rigs were actively working in the state’s oil patch on Thursday.

Two rigs are actively working on federal surface in the Dakota Prairie Grasslands.

On the Fort Berthold Reservation, 332,993 barrels a day of oil are being produced. Fifteen rigs are actively drilling and the reservation has 2,178 active wells. There’s 137 wells waiting on completion and 431 drilling permits have been approved on Fort Berthold, according to the report.

Over 99% of drilling now targets the Bakken and Three Forks formations, the agency also said.
