Ladonte Bryant, Minot, charged with strangling ex-girlfriend

Ladonte Chester Bryant, 28, Minot, is accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend, making threats against her and her mother, and violating an order prohibiting contact with her early on the morning of Aug. 9.

He is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony aggravated assault – domestic violence, Class C felony terrorizing, Class C felony tampering with witnesses and informants in proceedings, Class A misdemeanor menacing, and Class A misdemeanor violation of an order prohibiting contact.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the alleged victim told police that she had brought Bryant food and they had gotten in a car together. He became angry with her and grabbed her around the neck while she was driving past the hospital. The woman told police she honked at a parked patrol vehicle to try to signal for help while she was driving on East Burdick Expressway. Bryant told the woman he would kill her if she tried to call the police. She believed Bryant had thrown her cell phone out the window while she was driving by the fairgrounds. The woman also told police that Bryant threatened to send her name and her mother’s name to his associates and implied they would hurt her if he goes to jail. Bryant also ripped at her hair and pulled parts of it out. They then returned to Bryant’s residence, where the woman told police that Bryant strangled her until she was unconscious. When she came to, she discovered that she had been urinated on. Bryant then made her take a shower and change into some of his clothing. Bryant then went out to the parking lot to look in her car. The woman jumped out of a window and ran to the next building, yelling for help, while Bryant was gone.

Bryant had been previously charged in June with strangling the woman during a domestic dispute. A judge ordered Bryant to have no contact with the woman as a condition of his bond. He is charged with Class C felony aggravated assault – domestic violence in that case.

Bryant is being held at the Ward County Jail on $25,000 cash or corporate surety bond.

A preliminary hearing on the latest charges is scheduled for Sept. 19 before Judge Richard Hagar.
