Burlington’s new splashpad open for families

BURLINGTON – The product of three years of planning and fundraising, a new splashpad opened in Burlington a few weeks ago.

The splashpad is a joint project of the Burlington Recreation Commission, De Sour Valley Economic Development Corp. and the City of Burlington.

The city developed the project to provide another activity for children and families, said Jeanine Kabanuk, Burlington mayor and recreation commission member. The splashpad is handicapped accessible, and all ages are welcome. Admission is free.

The splashpad is open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Labor Day. Some landscaping and restroom work is being finished, and a grand opening will be held next spring.

The water feature cost nearly $1 million, Kabanuk said. Donations continue to be welcomed.

My Aquatic Services in Moorhead, Minnesota, developed the splashpad based on features and emblems selected by the Burlington planners. The school’s Laker emblem is emblazoned on the pad’s central water feature. The purified water is heated and self-contained within the system.
