Brian Gehring, Minot, charged with possession of stolen vehicle, fleeing police

Brian Gehring, 47, Minot, is accused of being in possession of a stolen vehicle on Thursday and refusing to halt when ordered to do so.

Gehring is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony theft, Class A misdemeanor providing a false report to law enforcement, and Class B misdemeanor refusal to halt.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, an officer spotted a blue Dodge Dakota parked at Oak Park that had been reported stolen from Minot.

The officer spotted Gehring taking a backpack out of the vehicle. He later made contact with Gehring and a woman walking on the walking path. Gehring gave him an incorrect date of birth and looked nervous and fidgety. The officer told him he was being detained and Gehring started to flee. The officer deployed a taser and Gehring was detained.

Gehring is being held at the Ward County Jail and is scheduled to make an initial appearance on the charges today. He is also being held on a Burleigh County warrant for failure to appear.
