Minot City Band celebrates Independence Day

The Minot City Band, under the direction of Joseph Alme, will present a Fourth of July concert at Roosevelt Park on Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The program will be part of the City of Minot’s Independence Day activities and immediately following the patriotic program.

The program will feature the solo trombone appearance of Matthew Jermiason, professional artist musician, now living and performing in New York City. Jermiason is a Minot native and a graduate of Minot High School. He has a bachelor of arts degree in Music from Minot State University and a master’s degree in Trombone Performance from Bowling Green State University, Ohio. He is the son of John and Ann Jermiason, both musicians in the Minot Symphony Orchestra.

Jermiason will perform the very popular and well known “Concerto for Trombone,” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korksakov.

Other compositions to be performed by the band include “American Overture for Band,” by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, “Shenandoah,” by Frank Ticheli, “Midway March,” by John Williams, “Toccata for Band,” by Frank Erickson, “The Black Horse Troop,” by John Philip Sousa, “Armed Forces Salute,” arranged by Bob Lowden, “America the Beautiful,” arranged by Carmen Dragon and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” by John Philip Sousa.
