Fire causes release of brine and oil at saltwater facility

STANLEY – A fire at a saltwater disposal facility near Stanley on Monday caused the release of 147,000 gallons of brine and 8,400 gallons of oil.

Basic Energy Services reported to the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division on Tuesday that the fire was caused by welding sparks on location at the Stanley SWD #3 saltwater disposal facility, about 12 miles north of Stanley. Cleanup is underway.

A North Dakota Oil and Gas inspector has been to the site and will monitor cleanup progress.
