Patrol: Man struck and killed by oncoming vehicle when he chased dog

A 23-year-old Minot man was struck by an oncoming car and killed Thursday night near Ryder when he got out of a van to chase after a dog that had gotten loose and was running across Highway 28, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The name of the man has not yet been released.

According to the Patrol, the accident happened at Highway 28 mile marker 8, three miles south of Ryder at 10:31 p.m.

The van was stopped along the shoulder of Highway 28. Some of the occupants of the van got out. The dog got loose and ran. The man, a passenger in the van, ran after the dog and was struck by a southbound 2012 Buick Enclave driven by Mariah Wolf, 23, of New Town. Wolf was not injured.
