Minot Daily News scores at state newspaper convention

Minot Daily News (MDN) and its staff scored well at this year’s North Dakota Newspaper Association (NDNA) Bettter Newspapers Award, at an annual convention revolving around the awards ceremony and enrichment seminars.

This year’s event, held in conjunction with the South Dakota Newspaper Association, took place in Medora.

MDN took home eight awards in total while in competition with North Dakota’s other larger daily newspapers.

Sports Editor Alex Eisen was awarded with commendations for Sports Series and Sports Photo. He shared an award with staff writer Ashton Gerard and copy desk’s Rex Larson for Spring Sports Coverage. Along with Gerard and Larson and former Sports Editor Garrick Hodge received an award for Winter Sports Coverage.

Meanwhile the latest edition of MDN’s magazine Centennial Farms & Ranches earned Eloise Ogden, Mandy Taniguchi, Jill Schramm, Shyanne Belzer, Michael Sasser and The Pierce County Tribune’s Sue Sitter honors from NDNA.

Senior Staff Writer Jill Schramm was awarded for Feature Reporting. Editor Michael Sasser was awarded for Editorial writing and Mandy Taniguchi and Alexis Hauge were awarded for Special Advertising Section.

“I’m extremely proud of the work the staff has done the past years and for their recognition this year,” said Publisher/Advertising Director Jim Hart. “Our focus is on serving local readers and the local market, but it is also nice to be recognized by our peers. I anticipate that our award-winning coverage will continue for years to come.”
