Jose Gonzalez, Minot, appears in court on theft of property charge

Jose Victor Gonzalez, 30, who was acquitted of robbery and fleeing from police in absentia at a jury trial last September, was apprehended by police on Friday on an outstanding charge of Class C felony theft of property dating back to Feb. 28, 2017.

Gonzalez failed to appear for his scheduled jury trial Oct. 8 on the theft charge and the judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest on Oct. 10.

On Sept. 13, Gonzalez failed to appear for his jury trial on the robbery charge, but the trial continued in his absence and he was acquitted of the serious charges of Class B felony robbery and Class C felony fleeing a police officer. Gonzalez was convicted of two Class A misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance.

Court records show that Gonzalez was scheduled to make a court appearance on Friday in district court before Judge Doug Mattson.
