Eric Wiley, Savannah Gaughan charged with assaulting each other; Gaughan charged with spitting at police officer
Eric James Wiley, 27, and his girlfriend, Savannah Jean Gaughan, 32, both of Minot, were charged with assaulting each other early Wednesday after they got into an argument when Wiley told Gaughan he had spanked her daughter for misbehavior the previous day, according to court documents. Gaughan was then charged with spitting at a Minot police officer when she was arrested.
According to the separate probable cause incidents filed with the court, Gaughan was angry because she did not approve of the way Wiley disciplined her child. Gaughan called police after the incident and was extremely upset. Gaughan told police that Wiley grabbed her wrist and twisted it. Wiley told police that Gaughan scratched him on his neck, face, head, and arms. Wiley, who had a prior domestic violence charge, was charged with Class A misdemeanor simple assault in district court. Gaughan is charged with Class B misdemeanor simple assault – domestic violence in Minot Municipal Court.
After Gaughan was placed under arrest, she allegedly spat at Officer Kevin Cory while he was trying to put her in the back of a squad car. She is also charged with a Class C felony for spitting at the officer.
The children’s father was called to take custody of Gaughan’s children after she was arrested.
A preliminary hearing in the felony case is scheduled for April 4 in district court before Judge Stacy Louser.
