On Sunday, Boy Scout Troop 425 of Minot will celebrate Cody Zumbaum becoming the troop’s 94th Eagle Scout during a 2 p.m. Eagle Court of Honor at Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. A reception is to follow the Court of Honor.

Zumbaum is the son of Wade and Shelly Zumbaum of Minot. He is a senior at Minot High School where he is involved with DECA. After graduation he plans to do an apprenticeship to become an electrician. He has volunteered his time for several years with the Andrew Crockett Memorial Basketball Tournaments for scholarships at Bishop Ryan High School and attends Christ Lutheran Church with his family where he was confirmed. He helps the church annually with their Norsk Hostfest booth.

Zumbaum’s hobbies are hunting, playing video games and enjoying time with his friends.

His scouting career began in 2007 with Cub Scout Pack 404 at Perkett Elementary in Minot. In February 2012, Zumbaum joined Boy Scout Troop 425. He has held leadership positions in his troop as quartermaster for three terms, librarian, chaplain aide, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader for two terms, OA representative and he is currently serving as an instructor.

Zumbaum has earned 35 merit badges as well as various special awards including Trailblazers, Paul Bunyan Woodsman, ATV, Paddle Board, Snorkeling BSA, World Conservation Award, Den Chief Service Award, Troop Meeting Perfect Attendance Award in 2012 through 2018 and Troop Camping Perfect Attendance Award in 2014 and 2015.

This past February Zumbaum was selected by the Northern Lights Council to be one of the scouts to have a part in the Annual Report to the Governor.

Zumbaum has earned 91 days and nights of camping as a Scout with Troop 425, which includes five summer camps at the Northern Lights Council Camp Wilderness along with seven Tomahawk District Camporees and three Klondikes. In the summer of 2015, Cody attended the week-long National Youth Leadership Training at Camp Wilderness. He is also a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, which is the BSA’s Honor Society of Campers.

His Eagle Scout Project involved planning, organizing, coordinating, both materials and volunteers in remodeling the “Kitty City” adoption room at the Souris Valley Animal Shelter in Minot. This included replacing ceiling tiles, painting the walls and the floor and building a storage box for supplies.
