Ward County 4-H members win at Stanley & Bismarck Hippology Contests

Seven Ward County 4-H members traveled to Stanley for the Hippology and Horse Quiz Bowl contests.

The contests were held at the Mountrail County South Complex on Feb. 2. Hippology is divided into four categories: horse judging, written test, team problem and stations. At the Stanley contest, age divisions are split into Beginner, Junior and Senior. Beginners are eight to 10; Juniors, ages 11 to 13; and Seniors, ages 14 to 18. In Quiz Bowl there are only two age groups, Junior and Senior. Juniors are eight to 13 years old, Senior are ages 14 to 18.

In the Beginner Hippology contest, the Beginners were able to work together on all aspects of the contest. The Junior and Senior ages worked individually. Ward County Beginner Hippology competitors included Bailey Bloms, Carpio, Nadia Lemer, Berthold, and Hailey Schauer, Carpio. As a team, Bloms, N. Lemer, and H. Schauer won the Beginner Hippology contest with a score of 763.

In the Junior Hippology contest, Ward County was represented by Haley Buck, Minot, Macey Moore, Berthold, Anne Schauer, Carpio, and Mackenzie Wipf, Ryder. The Ward County Junior team won their contest with a score of 743. Individually in this contest Buck placed third, A. Schauer placed fourth, Wipf placed eighth, and Moore placed 12th.

In Horse Quiz Bowl there are only two age groups, Junior (ages 8 to 13) and Senior (ages 14 to 18). This contest had a single-elimination process. Ward County had two Junior teams. One consisted of Bloms, N. Lemer, Sadie Lemer, Berthold, and H. Schauer. The other consisted of Buck, Moore, A. Schauer, and Wipf. The team of Buck, Moore, A. Schauer, and Wipf placed third.

On Feb. 9, Ward County participated in the 4-H Hippology contest in Bismarck, held at the Burleigh County Extension building. At this contest, participants were split into teams of Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.

The Ward County Junior team was represented by Bloms, S. Lemer, H. Schauer, and Wipf and won their contest.

Also the Ward County Intermediate team won their contest and were represented by Buck, Emily Fannik, Max, Moore, and A. Schauer. Individually, Moore placed first overall, Fannik placed second, A. Schauer was fourth, and Buck was seventh.
