U.S. Customs and Border Patrol reports attempts to smuggle people across the U.S.-Canadian border

The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol reported two incidents on Nov. 3 of attempts to smuggle people across the border at the Pembina and the Dunseith border crossings.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Dunseith Port of Entry on Nov. 3 discovered a 39-year-old Mexican man hidden in the trunk of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 50-year-old Colombian man, according to a press release. Both men were taken into custody. The men were being held at the Grand Forks Correctional Center pending criminal proceedings.

In Pembina, also on Nov. 3, Customs and Border Patrol officers detained a 41-year-old man, a U.S. citizen, who was driving a rental vehicle at the primary inspection booth. After further questioning, they determined that two Mexicans had crossed the border without inspection. The man was arrested and charged with alien smuggling. He is also being held at the Grand Forks Correctional Center.
