Jerrell Riley, Minot, sentenced for simple assault – domestic violence

Jerrell Curtis Riley, 35, Minot, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Class B misdemeanor simple assault – domestic violence in district court in Minot on Thursday.

Riley had originally been charged with two Class C felonies and accused of beating a woman on May 21 and accidentally striking a 9-year-old girl who tried to protect her mother from him.

The state dropped the child abuse charge under the terms of a plea deal and reduced the felony to a Class B misdemeanor.

Judge Gary Lee sentenced Riley to 30 days in prison, all suspended but the four days he already served, and to 360 days unsupervised probation. Lee also ordered Riley to complete a domestic violence offenders course and to pay $550 in court costs.
