David Reed, Minot, enters Alford pleas to child porn offenses

David Alexander Reed, 22, Minot, entered Alford pleas Tuesday to five Class C felony counts of possession of child pornography.

North Central District Court Judge Doug Mattson ordered a pre-sentence investigation and ordered him held pending sentencing. A sentencing date was set for Oct. 15.

Reed was an active duty U.S. Air Force member when he was charged last year. According to court documents, Reed uploaded five sexually explicit videos and two sexually explicit Excel files of girls between the ages of 12 and 14 to a Dropbox account in August 2016. Reed was 20 at the time. The Minot Police Department received a tip from North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations Crimes Against Children Task Force, which initially received it from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Reed was arrested and charged following an investigation.

The Alford pleas mean that Reed maintains his innocence but recognizes he might be found guilty if the case went to trial.
