Mandatory water ration for city of Minot due to complications at the treatment plant.

Eloise Ogden/MDN Minot Water Treatment Plant

A mandatory water ration has been imposed for the city of Minot effective immediately. No lawn watering, car washing, or other excessive water use is permitted. Commercial car wash facilities are exempt until further notice.

The rationing comes after a malfunction to the main, 12 million gallon per day treatment basin was discovered early Saturday morning. Crews are currently working to repair the issue. A backup treatment basin will be used until the repairs are made.

Current water usage for their service area is 8-9 million gallons per day, the backup basin can produce only 6 million per day.

The water ration will remain in effect until further notice.
