Man charged with assaulting police officers

A 23-year-old Minot man is accused of assaulting two Minot police officers who were trying to arrest him on an outstanding warrant early Thursday.

Adriel Lewis is being held at the Ward County Jail and is being charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, refusal to halt, preventing arrest, possession of methamphetamine and providing false information to a police officer, according to the Minot police.

Police say that they came into contact with three people early Thursday while they were patrolling an alley in the 2000 block of Fourth Street Northwest. Lewis gave officers a false name. Officers investigated further and discovered that Lewis was wanted for a felony probation violation warant. Officers said that Lewis tried to flee. They caught him and he continued to struggle. The officers used tasers to subdue him. Lewis allegedly assaulted two officers during the arrest attempt. They later found meth when he was searched after his arrest.

One of the officers sustained minor injuries.
