Oil spill affects slough near Westhope
WESTHOPE An oil spill is impacting a slough six miles southeast of Westhope.
The spill occurred at a site owned by Enduro Operating as a result of a broken pipe at the wellhead.
North Dakota Department of Health officials said Wednesday that 126 gallons of oil and a small amount of brine were released.
Heath Department officials said the company estimated 84 gallons of oil have been recovered by a vacuum truck. Absorbent booms were placed around the spill to keep it from spreading. Affected soil will be removed from the site and the remaining oil will be burned off with approval of Health Department staff.
Both N.D. Oil and Gas Division and Health Department personnel are at the scene to assist with clean up and remediation.
