Boil order issued for Sawyer

Sawyer residents have been asked to boil all of their water this week due to ongoing problems with the city’s water supply.

The city of Sawyer issued a boil order this week due to a water main break that was reported late Wednesday evening, according to a press release issued by Larry Haug, the Ward County 911 Coordinator and public information officer.

The break was repaired by 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, but a problem with the city’s water reservoir prevented the city from restoring water service normally provided by the North Prairie Water District, according to a press release. To provide water to residents, the city is using a well water system that it had used prior to the adaptation of Rural Water services. By restarting the former water system, they were able to bypass the water reservoir and restore service to residents that same day.

Water tower specialists have been contacted and will arrive early next week to assess the problem with the water reservoir. Once that situation has been resolved, the city will return to its normal water service.

Until the reservoir situation is resolved and water samples pass the required tests, residents will remain on well water and the boil order will remain in effect.
