Marvin was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Stanley, N.D., to Henry and Estelle (Oneson) Nordby. He attended country school and graduated from Stanley High School in 1941.

Marvin started farming and ranching south of Powers Lake. On July 15, 1945, he married Alda Lee at the Nordby farm. They built their “Little House on the Prairie” not far from Marvin’s childhood home. Marvin and Alda raised their girls there Mary Lee, who was born in 1949, and Anna Lee, who was born on Marvin’s birthday, Feb. 13.

He enjoyed woodworking, wood chipping, music, collecting mugs, dancing and caring for the many trees he planted on his farm. Marvin and Alda traveled to all 50 states and 12 countries including the Holy Land. He was active in his community as a member of the Mountrailsmen Choir, Sons of Norway and Flickertail Village Museum. He served on the Mountrail Soil Conservation District, church councils and choirs of Holy Cross Lutheran and Cottonwood Church and on Sorkness Township Board.

Marvin was a man of faith who loved his wife, family, friends and neighbors. He treasured the country life, his farm and animals, and being part of the Cottonwood Lake Community. A big, strong, but oh so gentle, handshake and smile always greeted friends.

Marvin is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Alda, Minot; daughters, Mary Lee (Dick) McNally, Mukwonago, Wis., and Anna Lee (Don) Ahmann, Minnetonka, Minn.; grandchildren, Sean, Jeremy, Jason, Margit and Michael; and a great-grandchild, Tai.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Clarice.
