Taube announces student art contest winners

The Taube Museum of Art on April 8 announced the winners of its annual student art contest where more than 660 pieces of art have been submitted from different schools across the state.

The contest was held in different categories based on grades, from kindergarten through 12th grade: K-3, 4-6, 7-8 and 9-12.

“Most of the school teachers are usually aware of the contest and a lot of teachers put effort in that. We announced the contest in late February and this year, we got some new participants because we have some long lists of contacts,” said Doug Pfliger, gallery manager at the Taube Museum of Art.

“There are 663 pieces of work submitted for the contest from around 40 schools across the state,” he said.

This year’s judges were Terry Jelsing, Rugby, artist/teacher and Rhonda Helde, Hazen, art instructor. The two jurors chose a list of best art for several award categories such as the Governor’s Award, Congressional Art Award, State of the Arts Award, Taube Museum of Ar Award and Northern Visions Award.

From all the categories, the jurors have also chosen several pieces to be part of a Traveling Exhibition for the upcoming year.

“The traveling show includes around 80 percent works of the judges selected. And that will go to, starting from the North Dakota State Fair, will go to probably, Cando art center, and then it will go to Grand Forks, and then Devils Lake and then it will end up at James Memorial Center in Williston and it will then come back to Taube Musuem of Art,” he said.
