Ward County seeks HR director

County advertises to fill position vacancy

Ward County is advertising to fill its human resources director position after commissioners accepted the resignation of Robin Finneseth on Tuesday.

Finneseth, whose last day was Nov. 1, left to accept a position in the private sector. She had started the county’s newly created human resources department in June 2018. She had worked in the human resources field for nearly seven years before coming to the county.

With her departure, the Ward County Commission agreed to advertise the position for three weeks at a salary range of $79,000 to $89,000. A screening committee was appointed to review applicants, with top applicants to be interviewed by the commission.

Commission Chairwoman Shelly Weppler voiced the county’s appreciation for the work Finneseth accomplished in establishing the department, putting policies in place and creating processes that enable the office to sustain itself while a new director is being sought. The office is staffed with a human resource generalist and payroll technician.

In other business, the commission appointed Rep. Clayton Fegley, R-Berthold, and Louis “Mac” McLeod, executive director of the Minot Area Homeless Coalition, to serve on the new Ward Human Service Zone Board, which will be replacing the Ward County Social Services Board. Also serving on the zone board will be the five county commissioners.

After looking at options for donating or disposing of retired computers formerly used by county offices, the commission voted to pay $337 to have Kalix’s Recycling Center in Minot recycle 90 computers. However, the hard drives will be delivered to the Ward County Highway Department for destruction and disposal.

Proper disposal to prevent potential hacking led to the decision to process hard drives separately. Previously, the commission entertained the idea of donating the computers to charity, but based on legal advice regarding the risk of confidential information remaining even on thoroughly wiped hard drives, that avenue was abandoned.
