Comedian Bob Golub heads to Minot

Bob Golub has been a comedian and an actor for 40 years. He has traveled the world performing for the troops and now, on May 25, he will reach the milestone of performing in all 50 states with his Minot show. He will be performing at the Clarion Hotel starting at 8 p.m.

Golub grew up in Sharon, Pa. Through his research of Minot, he has started to find many similarities between the two, especially in how hard working residents are.

“Getting to come to Minot is actually very exciting. It’s like going back to where I grew up,” Golub said.

Golub learned from a young age the good that laughter can do and the importance of finding humor. He had to work for everything he wanted, nothing ever being handed to him. After he went to jail, he did what he needed to change the path he was on. He moved away and took the leap into his career as a comedian.

His career began with a cameo in the Martin Scorsese’s movie “Goodfellas.” From there, he never looked back and took off to work hard toward his goals.

Now 40 years later, he has made a name for himself and continues to work hard to achieve what he sets his mind to. He has become not only an actor and comedian, but also a world-class documentarian. His film, “Dodo,” won awards in every festival it was entered in.

What Golub is most proud of with his career is his shows for the troops overseas and being a founder of the long-running charity event that benefits those who are hard of hearing.

For Golub, what he does to help others is more important than anything else.

“When you can change people’s lives, you help in changing the lives of even more through them,” he said. “When we pass, if you give more than you take, you’ll be fine.”

He has recently been putting on shows in Las Vegas. As he heads to Minot, he plans to put on a good, quality show.

“You don’t have to go to Vegas,” said Golub. “We’re bringing Vegas to you.”

The show will feature all original work, something Golub prides himself on. Every show is different in some way and he always works to bring in something new based on whereever he is performing or what is going on in the world.

He does warn that his show isn’t for the weak.

“I tell it the way it is. I prefer to talk about things and make them funny,” Golub explained. “I’m not politically correct and if people are easily offended, this won’t be the show for them.”

For Golub, one of the most important things that goes into his comedy is finding the humor in the truth. This, according to him, can create a show that isn’t for everyone and can be a bit edgy.

Regardless, he plans to put on a good show and is already working on some special jokes just for Minot. He will be joined by rising comedian Casey Flesch from Minneapolis.

Tickets for the show cost $15 and can be purchased online at eventbrite or at the Clarion Hotel.
