MSU’s Franco named Second Team Academic All-America

Minot State senior Ashley Franco has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division II women’s soccer team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Franco, who was a First Team All-District 7 selection, was named Second Team Academic All-America.

Franco currently has a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average and is an Art major. On the field, Franco was named Second Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and helped lead the Beavers to the NCAA Tournament from her defender position. She finished the season with two assists and anchored a defense that did not allow a goal for over 500 minutes during a five-match winning streak.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Franco is the eighth Minot State student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors and joins Breanne Hatfield (2015) as the only women’s soccer players in school history to achieve the honor.

The list of Minot State Academic All-America selections includes Jen Dixon (2013), Kowan O’Keefe (2014, 2015), Melissa Bell (2015), Ali Cygan (2015) and Aaron La Deaux (2016).
