Majettes start strong but fall to Legacy, 3-1
WILLISTON — Communication was strong amongst the Minot High girls volleyball team in the first set against No. 2-seeded Bismarck Legacy during the first round of the West Region Tournament in Williston Thursday. The Majettes ultimately fell to the Sabers, 3-1, after taking the first set, 25-20.
“We played so well,” Majettes head coach Sherry Carlson said. “Communication was so strong and helped get the win, 25-20. Legacy rebounded and got us the next three sets.”
The Sabers took three sets in a row to win the match with set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-20.
Senior Sydney Beck led the Majettes in kills with nine followed by Morgan Wheeler, Carrie Otto and Caitlyn Messner each with six.
Hailey Espe led the Majettes at the net with 17 assists. Messner, Beck and Allie Nelson had two blocks each at the net. Morgan Theis and Espe led the Majettes in digs with 12.
Up next, the Majettes will move into consolation to face No. 6-seeded Bismarck St. Mary’s in the loser-out round today at 3 p.m. at Williston High School. The Majettes fell to the Saints twice earlier this season and were only able to win one set against the Saints.
