MSU men’s golf wins King’s Walk Invite

GRAND FORKS — Shaving off 24 strokes from its first round team score, the Minot State men’s golf team shot a 284 Monday in the second and final round to win the King’s Walk Invitational team title at the King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks.

Carson Harcourt led the Beavers with rounds of 73-72 to finish third individually. He was two strokes behind medalist Devon Schade of Manitoba.

“Great rounds by Matthew Bean, Cody Reynolds and Carson Harcourt,” MSU coach Randy Westby said in a press release. “It was a tough day with the winds and cold. This is the best round we have played in my six-year tenure and I’m proud of my boys.”

The Beavers two-day team score of 592 was enough to top St. Cloud State (596), Manitoba (600), Manitoba B (606), Bemidji State (628) and Minnesota Crookston (637).

MSU’s Matthew Bean shot a second-round 69 to finish fourth overall with a score of 146. Minot native Cody Reynolds posted MSU lowest score on Day 2 with a four-under par 68 and finished seventh overall (148).

Matthew Kreutz (153, 13th), Aaron Ogrodnick (155, 15th), Braeden Cooper (159, 25th) and Leighton Bearchell (162, 31st) golfed for the Beavers.

MSU returns to action Sept. 24-25 at the JR Watkins Inviational in Lake City, Minn.
