Magi tennis sweeps Demons 9-0

Ashton Gerard/MDN Minot High junior Jack Wolsky returns the ball during a high school tennis match against Bismarck Legacy Thursday at Hammond Park in Minot.

Minot High boys tennis kicked off conference play Thursday against Bismarck High at Hammond Park. The Magi took every single match from the Demons, ending the day with a perfect 9-0 finish.

“Despite some slow starts in singles, we were able to right the ship and win 5 of the 6 in straight sets,” Minot High head coach Scott DeLorme said. “Jack Wolsky, Eric Wentz, and Peyton Huss all had convincing singles wins which is always nice to see. We think those three are going to be a big part of any success we have as they’re talented and add to the depth of the top.”

Minot’s Mason and Zach Diehl finished their matches in straight sets at No. 1 and 2 singles. Rory Taney at No. 3 went the distance with Bismarck’s Noah Fettig, winning in three sets after losing the first.

With the win secured by the singles crew, the team was able to focus and adjust different aspects of their doubles play. Each doubles pair won in straight set wins over Bismarck High.

“I think we saw some good things, but continue to see things we know we can get better at in the short term,” DeLorme said.

The Magicians (5-0, 1-0 WDA) return to Hammond Park Tuesday, Sept. 4, for a non-conference matchup against Bismarck Legacy beginning at 4:15 p.m.
