Unlucky No. 13: Sabre Dogs win streak snapped

ABERDEEN, S.D. — The 13-game winning streak for the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs came to an end Friday night in Aberdeen, as the Hub City Hotshots took down the league-leading Sabre Dogs, 7-6.

The Sabre Dogs (23-9) hadn’t lost a game since June 13, which was also a defeat to the Hotshots (13-19).

Souris Valley had the lead twice on Friday, but surrendered four runs across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to feel the agony of defeat for the first time in two weeks.

Clay Ashworth, Justin Glover and Blake Ebo provided home runs for the Sabre Dogs. With Glover hitting his fifth long ball of the season, Souris Valley has nine players who have hit five or more home runs 32 games into the season.

Mason Dinesen and Chauncey Callier also chipped in RBIs on Friday for the Sabre Dogs, while starting pitcher Aaron Kern went six innings and gave up four runs (three earned). Relief pitcher Zach Lang picked up the loss.

It was a team effort from the Hotshots, as eight different players collected 11 hits. Jake Malec led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Sabre Dogs close out their three-game series with the Hotshots today at 6:35 p.m. before heading into a three-day All-Star break.
