Sabre Dogs bounce back with win over Sasquatch

The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs edged the Spearfish Sasquatch 8-5 in game one of a two-game set, improving the Sabre Dogs to 9-6 overall.

Despite falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Sabre Dogs came roaring back with eight runs over the course of the first three innings. Spearfish threatened with a pair of runs in both the third and fifth innings, but could not regain the lead.

Jesse Ellefson tallied a pair of strikeouts in five innings as the starter for Souris Valley. Zach Lang took over in the sixth inning and pitched a shutout through the remainder of the game, allowing just two hits and striking out two.

Jack Schuler drove in three runs in a 2-for-4 performance, while EJ Ranel added two more RBIs in a 1-for-3 effort.

Souris Valley and Spearfish will play game two of the series today at Corbett Field at 5:35 p.m.
