Majettes tennis strikes down Mandan
The Minot High girls tennis team (13-1, 7-0 WDA) remain undefeated in the WDA with a solid win over the Mandan Braves (7-6, 2-5 WDA) Tuesday in Mandan. Minot head coach Scott DeLorme was pleased with the effort.
“For whatever reason, we have struggled at Mandans courts in the past, but I thought we reversed that trend today as we were able to win five singles matches in straight sets,” DeLorme said. “Our goal is to always have five singles wins and the girls responded nicely today to achieve that.”
Sophomore Haya Dodin defeated Mandan’s Elizabeth Felderman. In the last couple of years, DeLorme said Felderman has proved to be one of the top players in the Western region.
Raquel Egge, Kali Askvig, Gwen Matthews and Eden Olson all put in strong performances for straight set singles wins.
“In doubles, our No. 3 team of Sofia Egge and Alyssa Henson teamed together and really did some nice things,” DeLorme said.
As the Majettes head toward the postseason, DeLorme said the team’s depth will be a major strength in the coming weeks. The team has a number of options for their lower doubles teams that is going to make them tough to beat.
The Majettes return to action Thursday as they faceoff with Century (9-2, 6-0 WDA) for the No. 1 seed in the region. The action starts at 4:15 p.m. at Sertoma Tennis Courts in Bismarck.
