Eull finishes sixth at NCAA Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Minot State senior Mitchell Eull finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the U.S. Cellular Center.

Eull was 1-2 on Saturday and finished the tournament with a 3-3 overall record to earn his sixth-place finish.

Eull opened day two of the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Jarrod Hinrichs of Nebraska-Kearney. Eull got an escape point in the second period and then used a stalling point and riding time to defeat Hinrichs.

The win vaulted Eull into the consolation semifinals against Matt Halverson of Wisconsin-Parkside where he lost by fall at 1:33 of the first period. He then faced Caleb Cotter of Central Oklahoma in the fifth-place match and suffered a 12-2 major decision loss.

Eull, who finished the season with a 32-7 overall record, had a storybook senior season for the Beavers. He broke the Minot State career wins record, became the first Beaver to win an NCAA Super Region title, became the first MSU wrestler to advance to the NCAA Championships, registered the first NCAA Championship win in school history and became the first Minot State wrestler to earn NCAA All-America honors.
